Attractions in Israel – Things to do in Israel

Israel is an amazingly diverse country filled with a rich archaeological and historical heritage as well as a wide range of natural beauty. Although the country is small, and can travel from its most northern point to its southern tip can be done in a single day, I encourage you to spend time in each area to fully enjoy the activities and sites available. The Golan Heights is the mountain range in the northeast of Israel. The Golan is filled with an abundance of natural beauty as well as modern and ancient history.

The Galilee has archaeological and historical heritage, as well as natural beauty. The Galilee has low mountain ranges, beaches, as well as everything imaginable in between.

The Haifa Area has the beauty of the Carmel mountains, as well as the modern city of Haifa located on the Mediterranean Sea.


The Tel Aviv and Central area has many museums telling of the modern history of Israel. Many cities, from Ashkelon to Tel Aviv to Netanya, are covered in this section.

Jerusalem is the heart of Israel, with a rich archaeological and ancient history, in every corner.  Jerusalem is a city like no other, and is worth exploring fully with plenty of time.


Judea, Samaria, and the Jordan Valley provide a variety of nature and historical sites. The ancient biblical sites in Hebron, Beit El, and Shilo are located in this area, as is the modern city of Ma’ale Adumim. The city of Beit She’an, which borders on the Jordan Valley, is also included in this section.

The Dead Sea is well known for its medicinal properties, but the area bordering on the Dead Sea is filled with archaeological points of interest, beautiful springs and hikes, as well as many desert animals.

The Negev is the desert area of southern Israel. The Negev includes ancient history as well as stunning desert beauty. The Negev cities of Eilat, Sderot, and Beersheba are well known, but the city of Mitspe Ramon is also worth visiting with its stunning views of the Ramon Crater.

What an amazing tour!  Our hike through Tel Gezer was wonderful!  Shira was so knowledgeable about the history and archaeology of the area.  She was also able to relate to the everyone in the group- both young and old.  We all learned so much and had a great time doing so!
